This course is aimed at all early years practitioners.

Purpose of Course

This course aims to provide the practitioner with an understanding of domestic abuse in all its forms and the range of ways in which children may be affected. There will be a focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and how this may have impacted children and young people.

Course Learning Outcomes will include

• Raising awareness of the experience of parents and children suffering domestic abuse including signs and symptoms
• Equipping the practitioner with skills to encourage children to build their own capacity to protect themselves in any circumstance
• Supporting practitioners to develop preventative and early intervention strategies in relation to children who do not feel safe, specifically children affected by domestic abuse
• Knowing when it is appropriate to make a child protection referral
• Signposting practitioners to local organisations that can provide support and advice.
