In-person CPD-accredited training
Delivered by an Eye Clinician and an Early Years Vision Impairment Specialist
Tailored specifically to 0–7 years / early childhood settings

Training Objectives
1. Increase understanding of how young children see, including the key components of vision and how common childhood visual impairments affect learning, play and daily activities.
2. Improve practitioners’ ability to recognise visual behaviours that may indicate reduced vision and understand the functional impact these have in real settings.
3. Develop empathy and insight through immersive VR simulation, enabling practitioners to experience how visual impairments affect navigation, communication, emotional responses and participation.
4. Strengthen confidence in applying practical early-years strategies to support inclusion, adapt environments, and promote safe, accessible play and learning.

Expected Outcomes for Participants
After the session, participants will:
1. Have a clear, practical understanding of the most common early-years visual impairments and their real-world impact.
2. Demonstrate increased empathy, enabling more responsive and confident support for children with vision impairment.

3. Be able to apply simple, evidence-based adaptations to reduce barriers in childcare environments (lighting, contrast, seating, organisation of play spaces, communication approaches).
4. Better understand when to seek further assessment or specialist support, and how to work effectively with parents and professionals.
5. Report measurable improvements across knowledge, confidence and practical readiness (captured through our evaluation tools and included in the post-pilot report).
