Making Sense of ADHD in the Early Years

  • Understanding what Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is and isn’t
  • A knowledge of up to date research, diagnostic criteria, comorbidities, executive functioning impairments and emotional dysregulation
  • Understanding the different presentations of ADHD, including gender
  • Developing strategies to support children in early years settings including, support for executive functioning, session planning and structure, communication, environment and sensory needs
  • Understanding the importance of providing children with support required for emotional regulation
  • Providing support and signposting to parents and carers on support systems/resources available for children with ADHD
