Online Training: The Flourishing Child - Exploring Child Development 0 - 4 Years

Target Audience

Practitioners who wish to learn and understand about the key developmental milestones of children up to the age of 4 taking into consideration the effects of the pandemic. .

 

Purpose of Course

Upon completion, the practitioner will have an understanding of how children (0 – 4 years) develop, know the key child developmental milestones for this age group and understand the importance of meeting the needs of children aged 0 – 4 years by providing high quality learning experiences and by developing quality interactions with children through play and communication. 

Course Learning Outcomes will include

Upon completion of the course, the practitioner will have an understanding of the following:

a) An understanding of the different ages and stages of the child’s development (physical, intellectual and social/emotional development ) and the child's needs at each stage;

b) An overview of child development theories;

c) Understanding the adult role in creating gender neutral environments

d) The impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on child development;

e) Understanding and supporting children’s behaviour (age 0 – 4 years);

f) Planning to meet the developmental needs of children aged 0 – 4 years;

g) The importance of practitioners building effective relationships with the children in their care to ensure the child’s emotional needs are being met (including responding to children with a trauma informed approach);

h) How to support the young child’s learning through engaging play experiences; and

i) Effective communication with parents/carers to support the child’s development.
