This is not an ‘accredited course’ but rather a “stepping stone” for those practitioners who are thinking about moving into a management role.
The 3-week programme will focus on the underpinning knowledge and the skills needed to successfully manage a school-age childcare setting. The course will also give participants an opportunity to network with other professionals and to reflect on their own practice.
Course Content:
- Leading and managing a team within a registered school-aged childcare setting, including recruitment, induction, support and supervision and developing staff.
- Finance; Cash Flow, Budgets, Sustainability
- ‘Customer service’: Working in partnership with parents, supporting parents with childcare costs, managing complaints, collaborating with other key stakeholders
- Compliance; including Policies and Procedures, Minimum Standards, Playwork Principles
- Preparing for Inspection, Working in partnership with Early Years Team (HSCT)
Programme Objectives
- To provide succession planning for settings which have experienced recruitment and retention issues of managerial staff
- To provide training, upskilling and mentoring support to individuals who have achieved a Level 3 qualification relevant to the Childcare sector and are currently undertaking a Deputy Manager/Manger role in their setting.
- To provide a programme of upskilling which will be a stepping stone to further professional development (i.e. Level 5 CCLD/Playwork/Degree in Early Childhood Studies)
Programme Model:
3x 3hour training sessions
- Please note that participants must commit to attend all 3 sessions.
Delivery Methods
The programme of learning will be facilitated via Zoom. This will involve discussion and reflective activities. Participants will also receive a resource pack on completion of the course.
