This course is funded through the Skill Up programme.

Skill Up has been designed to provide additional upskilling and reskilling opportunities to improve the skills profile of our local workforce.

About the Course

The CACHE Level 3 SENCO course enables learners to develop or enhance their understanding of Special Educational Needs or Disabilities and the legislation and regulatory requirements in place to identify and support children and their families to ensure their individual needs are met.

To achieve this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete two mandatory units:

Unit 01

  • Roles and responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in the Early Years.

Unit 02:

  • Strategies and techniques for supporting children and their families

Entry Requirements

Learners must meet the following programme eligibility criteria:

  • over 18 years of age;
  • eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
  • ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or
  • a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

Learners must also have a previous Level 3 childcare qualification, and work in the private/voluntary sector in a management/supervisory role, for example, Day care, Sure Start or Playgroups. This qualification is NOT suitable for a SENCO role in a school setting.

Courses will be delivered online, and learners must have access to a computer or laptop and internet. Please note that tablets, mobile phones and TVs are not compatible and should not be used for this course.

A microphone and web camera are also desirable to improve engagement in each session.

In addition, the course requires the learner to have an appropriate level of written and spoken English and computer literacy.

Documentation confirming eligibility of the above criteria will be requested prior to securing a place on the course.
