Course Duration

6 hours (2 x 3 hour session)

 

Target Audience 

This course is for all early years practitioners and play workers.

 

Purpose of Course 

This course will increase the practitioner’s skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs of children and families who have experienced loss or family change and how to support them.

 

Course Learning Outcomes will include

  • An understanding of the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences and a trauma sensitive approach to practice
  • An understanding the needs of children and families who have experienced loss
  • Promoting awareness of the impact of bereavement and family change on children, young people and their families
  • Gaining an understanding of a child’s perception of death and family change
  • Increasing the confidence of the practitioner to work and communicate effectively with children and their families who have experienced loss or family change
  • Provision of useful resources and signposts to local organisations that can provide support and advice
  • Provide detail of the Childcare Partnership Website and Family Support NI website and how these can be used as valuable sources of support and information.
