Target Audience:

Early Years practitioners working in registered, non-statutory settings.

Purpose of the Course

This course will provide early years practitioners with an overview of learning disability.  The course is joint facilitation from an early years professional and a family carer, which gives a unique perspective to the content.

Course Learning Outcomes will Include:

• Overview of learning diability
• Definition of learning disability and complex needs
• Understanding terminology
• Navigating the system: understanding the range of services that may be available and how they can be accessed
• Importance of working in partnership with parents

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from a parent, this will include:

• An insight to the families journey
• Dealing with diagnosis / the unknown
• Challenges & barriers
• Access to services
